The NY Rangers dismissed head coach John Tortarella on Wednesday after four-plus seasons and four consecutive playoff appearances.
G-M Glen Sather was forced to fire Tortarella following a player mutiny. His brash, bully style had worn out its welcome in the lockerrooom.
The old school guys love Torts because he holds players accountable. He was committed to what he was doing. I l believe the Rangers were better off now than before Tortarella arrived in New York.
The question now is who will succeed Tortarella in New York? One name that is being rumored is former Sabres boss Lindy Ruff, who was fired by Buffalo in February. Ruff could handle the New York media since he played with the Rangers from 1988-1991.
Ruff spoke with the Dalas Stars a few days ago about their head coaching job. Ruff will be behind someone's bench next season. Could or would you root for Ruff to win a Stanley Cup title in either New York or Dallas?
The Mets have not had a lot to cheer about over the last few years. For so many year that have played second fiddle to the Yankees.
This year's team is not playoff caliber, however, they do have themselves a phenom in Matt Harvey.
The 24-year old flame thrower is reminding Mets fans of Nolan Ryan, Tom Seaver and Doc Gooden.
The Mets’ ace put on a show last night firing eight innings of one-run ball, surrendering six hits and walking no one in his team’s 2-1 walk-off win over the Yankees at Citi Field.
Harvey fanned 10 while locking horns with Yanks starter Hiroki Kuroda in a fanstastic dual. The righthander is 5-0 on the season with an era of 1.85 through 11 starts. He’s allowed more than two runs in a game just twice all year.
The seventh-overall pick in 2010 has been as good as a rookie can be. He has 84 ks' in 78.0 innings pitched, he is only one behind A.J. Burnett for the most in the NL and ranks third overall in baseball.
Harvey is ready to replace Mariano Rivera as the best pitcher in New York. As for Rivera, the greatest closer ever is having one of the best seasons of his career before allowing two runs in the bottom of the ninth last night.
