General Manager Buddy Nix announced on Monday that he is stepping down as the G-M and transitioning to a role as an assistant . The transition from Nix to Assistant G-M Doug Whaley was put in play when the team extended the contract of Whaley back in February. Whaley has served under Nix for the last three years. Nix is 73 years old, while Whaley is 40.
So how we define Nix's tenure? Well 15 of the teams 22 starters in 2012 were acquired by the Bills through the draft or undrafted free agency. However, the Bills were 16-32 during his time. His did hire Chan Gailey in his first move. He best draft pick is running back C.J. Spiller. His worst pick's are up for debate. DT Torrell Troup, second round selection in 2010, CB Aaron Williams (2nd rd) and LB Kelvin Sheppard (3rd rd) in 2011. Nix failed to land impact players in the middle rounds of the draft. He also is responsible for giving Ryan Fitzpatrick a contract extension, and did hand over $50 million guaranteed to land Mario Williams.
Lets not forget prior to plucking EJ Manuel in the first round this year, Nix drafted only one other qb Levi Brown in the 7th round in 2010.
The future of the franchise and final legacy of Nix rest in the hands of Head Coach Doug Marrone and first round pick and Manuel.
Since the Bills last made the playoffs in 1999, the team is on their seventh different coach and now their 5th G-M.
