Fourth-seeded Syracuse will meet top-seeded Indiana Thursday in the East Region semifinals from Washington, D.C. The Orange survived Saturday night holding off the California Golden Bears for a 66-60 win. Tip-off is 9:40, you can hear the game on WHAM 1180.
Syracuse shot a season-high 41 free throws. The Orange made 26, which was also a season-high. But of Syracuse’s 15 missed free throws, 14 came in the second half and helped keep the Bears in the game. Survive and advance. Well for the sixth time since 2003 Jim Boeheim has the Orange in the Sweet 16.
SU and Indiana will meet in the NCAA Tournament for the time since the national championship game of 1987. A painful memory for SU fans and alum.
Florida Gulf Coast, is this year's Cinderella story of the tourney. On Sunday they became the first No. 15 seed to reach the Round of 16 with its 81-71 victory over San Diego State. The Eagles, who are in just their second season of eligibility for postseason play at the D-I level, have outscored their two opponents by 20 while shooting 49.5 percent. Up next for the Eagles, third seeded Florida Gators.
