The Honeoye Central School Board of Education accepted the resignations of varsity basketball coach Jim Parshall and JV coach Jordan Trowbridge in the wake of a hazing incident that occurred on the team bus following a win at York.
From what we know, the bus driver became so concerned about what was going on that he asked the coaches to intervene then went to the district when they did not. The district would not describe the behavior, but the hazing was administered to JV players by the varsity team. The hazing we are talking about is wedgies.
I doubt if anyone was injured. I understand the kids or the parents did not complain
Some will say giving wedgies have gone on for years and is a right of passage. I was hazed one time in 7th grade and thats it. It did not happen on school grounds. It never happened again neither was I hazed in high school, nor was I part of hazing of anyone.
My coaches did not allow or condone such actions. Some will say boys will be boys, and that is true. However, my feelings are leave your hands to yourself. We live in differnt times today, which means any forms of hazing will and should not be tolerated. Its time for all of us to grow up and lead by example
A memo to coaches, get your program in order.
I only hopes the varisty basketball team will be allowed to finish the season.
