Russ Brandon is running the show at One Bills Drive. Team owner Ralph Wilson rang in the new year by promoting Brandon to the position of president and CEO with full authority over the team's operations.

Brandon has a good reputation around the league and is qualified for the postion. He just completed his 16th season with the team.

I consider Brandon as part of the solution rather than the problem. His first order of buisness was to announce was to announce that Buddy Nix will remain the team's general manager with  assistant GM Doug Whaley ready to take over possibly by the the end of the year.  The 40-year old Whaley will be involved in the coaching search.

Here are the facts, Nix has improved the roster over the last three years without question. However, he failed to draft a quarterback other than Levi Brown in the seventh round in 2010.

The 2013 season will mark the sixth head coach since Marv Levy retired.  The Bills have finished 6-10 the last two years while extending their playoff drought to 13 years.

So who replaces Chan Gailey? The move of promoting Brandon will open the door to interview more top candidates then they did three years ago.

The coaching list includes Lovie Smith, Ken Whisenhunt, Ray Horton, Doug Marrone, Russ Grimm and Mike McCoy just for starters.

Here is why I like the move of promoting Brandon. He is in the building not to mention is 45-years old and not 94.  "Now, I'm in a position where I get to evaluate the evaluators,'' Brandon said. “I'm in a position where I get to evaluate every single thing that we do in this organization. And if I don't like it, we're going to change it.”

Did things get better or worse on Tuesday? I believe better.
