Bob Costas’ "Sunday Night Football" halftime commentary over gun control has ignited a huge debate.

Addressing the weekend’s murder-suicide involving Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher and his girlfriend, Costas said, "If Jovan Belcher didn’t possess a gun, he and Kasandra Perkiins would both be alive today.

Did Costas overstep his bounds by using halftime of a nationally televised football game as a platform. Many questioned whether Sunday Night Football was the appropriate venue for such a charged political statement.

Costas is the most respected sports broadcaster today.  He is the one person who carries the cache to deliver a controversial commentary. He is the modern day Howard Cosell, who used Monday Night Football to opine on social and cultural issues. I believe most rational people would agree we have a gun problem in this country.

Harold Reynolds has played "MythBusters" with the legend of Derek Eater. The MLB Network analyst on Monday distributed a pic of himself with a fit Derek Jeter..

The photo was posted to the MLB Network's Twitter feed and was said to be taken Sunday when Reynolds and Jeter had lunch together.

If the New York Post is to be believed, Jeter has been chowing big time this offseason. The Post gave life to "Derek Eater" on Friday when it psoted the headline over a back-page photo of an apparently a porky Jeter walking in South Beach.

Jeter is nursing a broken left ankle.  Alas, Reynolds deflated that perception.

Here are photos. So you decide.
