What a night of college football on Saturday. Baylor blows out BCS number one Kansas State 52-24 while Stanford takes down number two Oregon in overtime opening the door for Notre Dame and Alabama to meet for the national title.
A win over USC puts Notre Dame (11-0) in the BCS title game for the time ever. The Trojans will be without starting qb Matt Barkley, who is out with a sprained right shoulder. Freshman Matt Wittek will start.
Notre Dame has not been number one in any poll since 1993. The Fighting Irish have not played for a title since 1988. That season they beat West Virginia in the Fiesta Bowl. College Football is better when ND is winning.
Alabama, which jumped to No. 2, needs to beat Auburn this weekend and Georgia the following weekend in the SEC title game in Atlanta, to secure a dream matchup against the Fighting Irish. It will mark a re-match of the 1973 Sugar Bowl. In that game third-ranked 11-0 Notre Dame defeated the unbeaten top-ranked Tide, 24-23 on New Years Eve. A game that I still remember Al Hunter taking the kickoff back for a td to spark ND.
Buffalo's season comes down to this Sunday at Indy, a win over the Colts and the Bills will trail Indy by just one game in the wild card race with five games left in the regular season.
