Buffalo's defence was historically bad the past two weeks, a 52-28 loss to visiting New England, and a 45-3 beat down Sunday in San Francisco.

G-M Buddy Nix was asked Tuesday to assess the problem with the defense Nix said: “To be completely honest with you, what I see is not enough intensity and urgency.  When you miss tackles, usually it’s one of two things, it’s talent or lack of effort. We’ve seen these guys do it before so I think they can. We gotta get that urgency back somehow.”

Nix made Mario Williams the highest paid defensive player in the history of the NFL, signing him to a six-year, $96-million contract including $55-million guaranteed. Williams is on pace for five sacks this season

Nix acknowledged quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick must play better. We haven’t been consistent enough at that position. I keep saying this: If you can’t stop anybody, if you can’t stop the run and get off the field on defense and keep your offense in the game, then you got no chance no matter who the quarterback is.” Fitzpatrick has thrown 12 touchdown passes versus eight interceptions this season. But is 3-11 in his past 14 games, tossing  22 touchdowns and 24 interceptions

Nix also defended Head Coach Chan Gailey, there are concerns has lost the team. The season is not lost, but this team has major problems. Its a combo of coaching, talent and chemistry and they better find the answers very quickly.
