The Yankees entered last night 0-58 when down heading into the ninth inning, it took until the next-to-last day of the regular season, but New York finally won a game in which they trailed after eight innings.
Raul Ibanez played hero connecting on a pinch-hit, game-tying two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning and later drove in the winning run with a single in the 12th as the Yankees rallied for a 4-3 win versus the Red Sox.
New York's third straight win helped them maintain a one-game edge on Baltimore for first place heading into tonight's final games. The Yankees will send out Hiroki Kuroda to face Daisuke Matsuzaka. A win or a Orioles loss in Tampa and the Yankees captured their 13th divisional title since 1996. If New York and Baltimore finished tied, the two teams will go head-to-head Thursday night at Camden Yards.
With one day left in Major League Baseball's regular season, plenty is at stake. including the AL West crown, which is being decided in Oakland. I have never been a big fan of Commissioner Bud Selig, but what is undenieable, revenue has risen beyond anyone’s expectations, attendance is up again and the second wild card has made the regular season more meaningful than ever.
